Psychosynthesis Courses

What kind of Psychosynthesis courses are there?

We offer occasional group-based courses, small-number guided retreats, and training courses and seminars, details of which are below. We also sometimes recommend suitable courses offered by other psychosynthesis centres and practitioners.

We also offer a comprehensive distance learning programme, details of which can be found through the link on the left. These courses are in Psychosynthesis for Personal and Spiritual Development, and are not a qualification to work with others in a professional situation. We strongly believe you cannot become a psychotherapist through distance learning (whatever others may suggest.)  Receiving our Diploma does, however, show that the graduate has successfully completed an advanced, thorough and relatively hard programme of theoretical and practical Psychosynthesis (taking on average 2 to 3 years study.) If you are looking for a formal qualification as a psychosynthesis counsellor or psychotherapist, see our suggestions below.

Psychosynthesis Group Courses

These courses are intended to be supportive of your chosen life path and supplementary to any previous skills and training. They support you in being true to your own values whilst empowering others, in how to create meaningful and true meetings with people and to make you more effective in whatever field you work.

They are facilitated to enable maximum learning benefit through presentations, exercises and discussion. The practical work is supported with clear, easy to understand theoretical input and a warm, supportive atmosphere.

Psychosynthesis Conference

A major event for the Psychosynthesis community in 2012, if you are interested in attending this conference click on the box in the left hand column to get more details.

Psychosynthesis and Psychospiritual Guided Retreats

These guided retreats each have a core theme and are usually arranged with only a small number of retreatants (maximum 6) to ensure everyone attending has time and space to explore their process both individually and in meetings with the other retreatants. Usually a morning seminar is followed by individual consultations and time for personal inquiry and reflection.

The retreats are residential, in quality rural locations. They are very popular and book very quickly so if you are interested in attending a future retreat, we suggest you send your details so you can be informed when new retreats become available.

For fuller details on the retreats below, including booking information, or to be on our mailing list, please send an email to Psychosynthesis Avalon.

2012

March 23-30 (Friday-Friday)
Glastonbury, England

Being Beyond Meditation

On this retreat we will deepen our exploration of different kinds of meditation - reflective, receptive, creative, still, walking, flying, silent, transcendent, mindful, heart-centred, passive, trance-based, yogic, zazen, guided, and so on … different approaches that suit different minds, and which can be appropriate for different temperaments, tastes, abilities and so on. We will explore many different methods, but always with these words from Krishnamurti underpinning our inquiry: ‘All effort to meditate is the denial of meditation. Meditation is the ending of thought. It is only then that there is a different dimension which is beyond time.’

This retreat is now fully booked

September 28 - October 3 (Friday-Friday)
Glastonbury, England

Memory: A Deep Inquiry

More than just a collection of random episodes and facts from the past, your memory creates the ongoing narrative that makes your life truly yours. Memories inform how you learn, the decisions you make and, fundamentally, how your personality forms, develops and shapes your experiences of the past, present and future. On this retreat we’ll explore different aspects of memory including: the secret memories in the body; forgetfulness and unconscious memory; individual and collective memory; recapitulation and shamanic memory; freeing yourself from memory; and the different roles of memory in spiritual practice.

Biopsychosynthesis: Past, Present and Becoming

with Will Parfitt (English with German translation)

Although the body is sometimes overlooked in psychosynthesis, Assagioli asserted that the full name for psychosynthesis is bio-psychosynthesis, emphasizing the important role of the body in our personal and spiritual development. From our earliest experiences onwards, each of us builds a unique, on-going relationship with our body, repeating patterns, sometimes consciously, sometimes not so.

Jung asserted that 'Individuation can only take place if you first return to your body, to your earth, only then does it become true.' From this premise we will explore our relationship with our bodies and our physical presence in the world. We will focus on survival issues, breathing, containment and touch taboos, sexual energy, digestive functions and, exploring Reich’s theories of character armour, the effect of emotions on the body's energy centres, our core spirituality, and how to work with arising affects. We will aim to establish the truth within ourselves of the old tantric affirmation that 'there is no temple as beautiful as my own body.'
